The Density of Water
The math behind water weight relies on the physical properties of water. At room temperature, pure water has a very specific density.
- 1 US Gallon weighs exactly 8.34 pounds (3.78 kg).
- 1 Liter weighs exactly 1 kilogram (2.20 lbs).
- 1 Cubic Foot of water weighs roughly 62.4 pounds.
Note: Saltwater is slightly denser than freshwater, weighing about 8.56 lbs per US gallon.
Why Dimension Calculations Matter
Often, you won't know the total gallons of a custom container, hot tub, or flooded area. By entering the Length, Width, and Depth (the actual water level, not the height of the walls), we can calculate the total cubic volume.
