The Win Percentage Formula
The standard formula used to find your winning percentage is relatively straightforward. You divide your total wins by your total number of matches, then multiply by 100:
Note on Ties: In standard calculations, a tie simply adds to the total games played without adding to the win column. However, in certain sports leagues (like the NFL), a tie is calculated as a "half-win". This calculator uses the standard, strict mathematical approach.
Win/Loss Ratio Explained
While Win Percentage tells you the rate of your success across all games, the Win/Loss Ratio (W/L) compares your wins directly to your losses, completely ignoring the total game count.
For example, if you have 10 wins and 5 losses, your W/L Ratio is 2.0 (10 divided by 5). This means that for every 1 time you lose, you win 2 times. A ratio above 1.0 indicates a winning record, while a ratio below 1.0 indicates a losing record.
