How VIT Calculates Your CGPA
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) evaluates academic performance using a 10-point grading system. Your performance in a specific semester is measured by the SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average), while your overall performance across all semesters is measured by the CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average).
Our VIT GPA Calculator automatically applies the exact credit-weighting logic used by the university.
VIT Grade Points
Every letter grade you receive corresponds to a specific number of grade points:
- S (Outstanding): 10
- A (Excellent): 9
- B (Very Good): 8
- C (Good): 7
- D (Average): 6
- E (Pass): 5
- F (Fail): 0
- N (Not Eligible): 0
The SGPA & CGPA Formula
SGPA is calculated by multiplying the credits of each course by the grade points earned, summing those values, and dividing by the total credits attempted in that semester.
SGPA = Σ (Credits × Grade Points) / Σ (Credits)
Your CGPA works exactly the same way, but it includes every course you have taken since your first semester. You cannot simply average your SGPAs together!
