How is GPA Calculated?
Your Grade Point Average is a weighted average of your course grades, scaled by the number of credits each course is worth.
- 1. Grade Points: Every letter grade translates to a numeric value on a standard 4.0 scale (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0).
- 2. Quality Points: Multiply the grade points by the course credits (e.g., A 3-credit course with an 'A' = 12 Quality Points).
- 3. The Math: Divide your total quality points by your total attempted credits to get your semester GPA.
The Final Grade Formula
To calculate what you need on a final exam, you need three pieces of information: Your current overall grade, the weight of the final exam (as a percentage), and your target overall grade.
Final Exam Score Needed =
[Target - Current × (1 - Weight)] / Weight
Note: If the required score is over 100%, reaching your target grade mathematically requires extra credit!
