Understanding CGPA to Percentage Conversion
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is an educational grading system used by schools and universities to measure overall academic performance. However, many institutions, scholarships, and job applications still require your marks to be represented as a percentage. The 9.5 Multiplier Rule
In India, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) established a standard formula to convert CGPA on a 10-point scale into an indicative percentage.
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
Why 9.5? The board determined that the average score of students who achieved a 10 grade point was around 95 marks (not 100). Therefore, multiplying by 9.5 yields a more statistically accurate percentage reflection of the grade bracket.
University Specific Multipliers
While 9.5 is the standard for schools, many universities use different multipliers.
Some universities use a simple multiplier of 10 (e.g., an 8.5 CGPA = 85%). Others have complex formulas like (CGPA - 0.75) × 10.
